I am writing this because I had SO much difficulty finding more than a handful of customer reviews online when trying to find a juicer.
My family has been juicing for years now with a popular-brand centrifugal juicer. My stepdad was diagnosed with cancer and we started researching the Gerson Therapy. This juicer is NOT recommended for the Gerson Therapy, but their system is so complicated and expensive we decided to compromise. We went with a twin-gear because it's a much better juicer than a centrifugal but it's not nearly as much trouble as a 2-stage press system.

Anyway, we love it. We estimate we're getting twice as much juice per-veggie than we did with the centrifugal juicer. We juice at least 4 times per week (for 3 people) so we're thinking the price difference will easily be paid in a year just from the savings on produce.

It's also easier to clean than our old one. The hardest part to clean is the mesh screen... it has some tight corners that the pulp really gets jammed into, but after cleaning it a couple times it gets much faster. The rest of the parts are easy.

I haven't experienced any of the design flaws that the other reviewer mentioned. I mention that review specifically because it almost talked me out of getting this juicer, but I'm glad I decided to go ahead anyway. No juice has leaked out in any weird areas. The only part of the safety hood on mine that got dirty was the top tray around the feed chute, which is easily rinsed off. Some pulp gets into the area immediately around where the gears attach, but that can be cleaned with a squeeze of water from the sponge and a quick wipe-off. No juice got out any other areas.

i have had my gs-elite for almost 3 weeks and i really like it. it performs better for me than the gs-1000 which i have been using for several years.

i like using the wooden plunger because it is gives me a lot more sensitivity when feeding things into the feeding chute.

it seems that the gs-elite makes carrot juicing a bit easier than with the gs-1000.

the clean up is very easy for me and i like the "snap open and close" new style latching arms of the gs-elite.

most of the parts rinse off easily after a short period of soaking in the sink and i use my sink sprayer to 'squirt right on to' and clean the back part of the juicer body where everything attaches. also i can wash the cover easily in my dishwasher if needed and it comes out nice and clean.

one thing i personally enjoy about the gs-elite is that the feeding chute cover- assembly can be turned upside down and placed on a small towel after being washed so that it functions as a basket to hold the other juicer parts as they are drip drying after being washed in the sink. when i go to use my juicer again they are waiting for me nicely dried and ready to assemble.

also ...the stack of parts (drip drying in the cover basket) looks very neat as it sets on my kitchen counter.

Great juicer but not without drawbacks

I did extensive research on juicers before deciding to try an Omega VRT 350. Even though a twin gear juicer was better at producing higher quality and more juice, the price of the Omega VRT and the MANY satisfied customer reviews led me to purchase it. Upon arrival, I carefully took all the pieces out of the box, only to find the plastic top was cracked. Well, that made me question the durability of a plastic juicer. I sent it back without any issues (thank you Amazon) and found that there are only two non-plastic juicers on the market: Super Angel and Norwalk. As it turns out, I was able to borrow a Super Angel juicer from my friend for a couple months. I loved it. I returned the juicer to my friend and was trying to figure out how to manage $1000 to buy my own. (I would love to get a Norwalk at some point, but at the moment $2500 is completely out of my price range.)

My sweet boyfriend, who had heard me talk about how much I wanted a juicer, ended up buying this Green Star Elite juicer for me at Christmas. He knew how much I wanted a Super Angel, but said he couldn't afford it, and this was the next best thing. That is my history with juicers: getting a broken VRT 350 and returning it without ever using it; using a Super Angel for about two months; using the Green Star Elite for four months I use the juicer about every other day. With that in mind, here are my pro and con list:

PROS

1. It makes high quality juice.
2. You can make sorbets, nut butters, etc. (I've tried sorbets and they are DELICIOUS! Frozen banana and berries and voila, a healthy, delicious treat!)

CONS

1. Needs to clean the gears and screen often, particularly if juicing pineapple or orange. With the Super Angel, the gears and screen are twice as long, so I never had to clean it until I was finished juicing. I would much prefer to do all the cleaning afterwards, instead of up to three cleanings within one juicing session. (A normal juicing session for me is about a quart of juice... about 15 carrots and 6 oranges, for example.)

2. Little crevices that are hard to clean, most notably the front of the juicer (every time my boyfriend or I use it we say the same thing: "That's a poor design.") and the little space in one of the gears, which inevitably has bits of food from the last time I juice no matter how much time and effort I spend cleaning it. There are other areas that aren't very easy to clean, but at least there doesn't appear to be any food particles sticking to those parts.

3. It stains easily, particularly from carrots. The staining happened soon after the first use, so it's not like it's a build up. My issue with the staining isn't so much cosmetic, as the fact that it brings forth a question of the juice being in contact with plastic before consumption. This is one reason why if you're juicing for cancer that the Norwalk, or if the Norwalk is too expensive, the Super Angel, is recommended... those juicers are stainless steel. Some people don't care about juice touching plastic, but I do.

Note: This juicer requires effort to push the produce in the juicer. I don't mind this too much, but want to mention it for anyone who is weak or recovering from an upper body injury. Any twin gear is going to require some pushing to get the produce into the gears.

Summary: This is a good juicer with some drawbacks. Having juiced with a Super Angel and a Green Star Elite, I can say that the Super Angel is far superior and every time I juice I wish that's what I was using, especially due to the multiple cleanings and hard to clean areas of the Green Star Elite. The only con to a Super Angel is that the feet are underneath the body, so it's just a little wobbly. It's not a problem, more of a minor annoyance. With a Super Angel, there are less parts to clean, no crevices that are difficult to clean, less cleaning the gears/screen while juicing, and the option to put larger pieces of produce in the shoot. Plus, it's stainless steel. So, if you can afford a Super Angel, definitely go with it... and if you can't, this is a second best. You will get higher quality juice with a twin gear or a Norwalk than any other juicer, so these are the best juicers for the job. However, as it's been mentioned before, the best juicer for YOU is a juicer you use.

I wanted to rate this 3 1/2 stars, so struggled whether I should rate it 3 or 4 stars. Due to the high quality juice AND the versatility of it, I went with the four stars.
