Dyson DC39 Multi floor canister vacuum cleaner - I Pick This One

There are no bags to replace and the lifetime filters are washable, so there are no extra costs. DC39 Multi Floor comes with a Triggerhead tool, with an air-driven rotating brush bar. It’s the only turbine head controlled at the handle- so no bending down is required. Just push the button on the handle to turn the brush bar on for high pick-up on carpets, or off for delicate rugs and hard floors. DC39 Multi Floor has been engineered for reduced noise levels with no compromise in performance. The essential components are located inside the acoustically treated ball.
Patented Dyson Technology
Dyson engineers are constantly testing and inventing, trying to find new ways to make their technology work better. As they work, they file patent applications to protect their inventions from copycat manufacturers. That’s why the only place you’ll find Dyson technology is inside a Dyson machine.New Radial Root Cyclone Technology Ordinary vacuum cleaners rely on bags to trap dust and dirt. As you use them, the tiny holes in the bag clog up with particles of dust. This restricts the flow of air, so the vacuum cleaner loses suction. Dyson vacuum cleaners don’t rely on bags to trap dust and dirt. They use cyclone technology, which spins the air at incredibly high speeds. The cyclones inside a Dyson vacuum cleaner generate centrifugal forces many thousands of times the force of gravity. Dust, dirt and pet hair are flung out of the airflow and straight into the bin. No bag. No loss of suction. Dyson has been continually refining cyclone vacuum technology since inventing it more than 20 years ago. DC39 Multi Floor has new Radial Root Cyclone technology. Reconfigured air channels and improved flow efficiency reduce turbulence and preserve air pressure, so that the inner cyclones can extract more microscopic particles. These refinements help remove more dirt, dust, allergens and pet hair from the airflow.
Ball Technology Dyson Ball machines use Ball technology to overcome the steering limitations of fixed wheels. They ride on a ball, which turns on the spot, so you can steer with ease. The ball also holds the heaviest component (the motor) – positioned towards the base for a lower center of gravity and greater stability. The machine moves easily around obstacles, and the ball’s smooth surface means that it doesn’t dig into carpet pile.
Features
Triggerhead Tool: The only turbine head controlled at the handle so no bending down is required. A fingertip control switches the brush bar off for delicate rugs and hard floors, and switches it on for high pick-up on carpets.A Central Steering Mechanism: The only canister vacuum with a central steering mechanism for greater control. The cyclone pack articulates with the chassis, so it’s easy to control when moving around obstacles.
Reduced Noise Levels – Ball Engineering: No compromise in performance. Essential components are located inside the acoustically treated ball.
Extra Tools: DC39 Multi Floor comes with a Stair tool, and a Combination tool with a nozzle that converts to a brush tool for dusting.
Clear Bin Lets You See When it Needs Emptying: The bin on a Dyson vacuum cleaner is transparent so you can see when it needs emptying – and just how much dust, dirt and pet hair your Dyson machine has picked up.
Captures Allergens, Expels Cleaner Air: Dyson cyclones capture microscopic particles down to 0.5 microns in size. DC39 Multi Floor also includes a non-removable HEPA filter as an extra safeguard for allergy sufferers. It traps microscopic particles down to 1/5,000 of a pinhead, including pollen, mold and bacteria.
No Extra Costs: Other vacuum cleaners are still designed to need replacement bags and filters – and the cost soon adds up. Dyson vacuum cleaners don’t need replacement bags and filters, so there are no extra costs to worry about.
5 Year Parts and Labor Warranty: Your Dyson vacuum cleaner is likely to take a few knocks and bashes during everyday use – but that’s nothing compared to what Dyson puts its machines through during testing and development. All Dyson vacuum cleaners undergo a lengthy and rigorous testing program. That’s why DC39 Multi Floor comes with a 5 year warranty, parts and labor guaranteed by Dyson.

Reviews of Dyson Dc39 Multi Floor Canister Vacuum Cleaner
The Messiah of Vacuums
Rating by : Sarah Mc Bride,
This is the best vacuum ever. I have been a proud dyson owner for the past 8 years, my first was a purple DC07 Animal and that vacuum has been a trooper and still works just as good as when I bought it. So why a new vacuum? This one has all the bells and whistles that turn a staunch feminist into Donna Reed. It is that much fun to vacuum.
Out of the box, it takes five seconds to snap everything together and you are ready to go. I have no idea what the other reviewer is complaining about regarding the plastic but this is high quality all around. The plastic is smooth and has a matte finish (no scratches!) and is NOT BRITTLE so it won't snap. And nothing on my old dyson ever broke and that one was all plastic too.
Once I got going, I never had to stop. I started on the sea grass hallway rug, moved to the wood floor, moved back to the low pile rug in the living room and then into the kitchen. The vacuum is light weight, very easy to maneuver and no switching attachments. And is sucked everything up with no problems. Onion skins under the pantry shelf, sticky rice from my three year old's dinner, twigs and leaves from my husband's boots, sand from the driveway. All gone in seconds.
Then I carried it upstairs (and I didn't even notice, it was soooo light!) I vacuumed my bedroom which is all medium pile carpet. WOW did it get tons of stuff up. I hadn't vacuumed in two weeks and it got all sorts of gunk out of the carpet. And I could get the wand all the way under the dressers, changing table, crib and bed. WOW. The old dyson upright can't do that.
Then I quickly swapped the turbine head for the crevasse attachment (all neatly stored on the handle) and sucked the cobwebs off the fan and corners of the ceiling. And the wand is light and extends easily.
This vacuum rocks and is worth every penny. The ball design is great and it just follows you around the room.
UPDATE 11/26/2012:
I'm still loving this vacuum and I look forward to Saturday morning when I can get my "therapy" session in. Works just as perfectly despite all the abuse I've met out: stomping on the hose, dragging it up the stairs by the hose, vacuuming with the ball on its side (didn't notice that it had tipped), pulling the crap out of the electrical cord (its a tad short but how else would it fit into the small housing) and keeping it running constantly for over 90 minutes during some marathon cleaning..
Here are some more pros and cons as I've been using it.
PROS -
Takes abuse
Still sucks like a champ, even when WAY OVERFLOWINGLY FULL
All the attachments are awesome
REALLY easy to clean the turbine head, unlike my old upright model
CONS -
Turbine head not good on very thin area rugs - I have a very cheap thin 8x10 area rug I got at home goods with a thin rug pad underneath. That combo is just not working with the dyson, the suction is so strong that it sucks the carpet up or the turbine just stops. There are a few ways to adjust the suction by pulling on the levers on the handle to help but nothing seems to work. I can push the turbine and lift one lever, but that only works so-so. I've resorted to using the "flat out" attachment which is annoying but works. Dyson works fine on my other regular Pottery Barn wool area rugs. So maybe its just my Dyson is too snobby for Home Goods.
Sucks - in a good way
Rating by : DurbanGirl,
After finally retiring my beloved Hoover Windtunnel canister vacuum - I decided to replace it with this Dyson.
Assembly was easy - I gave up with the instructions (pictures only - but not very informative) and had it up and running in about 5 minutes. I vacuumed an area rug with my Hoover first (it still works - but is now held together by duct tape and rubber bands in several areas). After going over it a second time with the Dyson - I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of dust it pulled out of the carpet. There was a couple of pieces of lint (looked like a down feather) that I had to go over several times in order to vacuum it up - but otherwise it did a good job. Going off the area rug onto the hardwood floor was easy - you just push a button in the handle to turn off the brush so the floor doesn't get scratched. The canister is quite light and easy to pull around - and emptying it is a breeze. I would suggest emptying it into a large (outside) garbage can - otherwise dust may fly everywhere.
My only complaint is that because it's made of plastic - some of the parts seem rather flimsy. With my old hoover - plastic parts would break off here and there - to the point that it's almost unusable. I fear the Dyson may suffer the same fate. The flimsiest bit seems to be the latch on the bottom of the dirt cup - I guess time will tell. Thankfully - there is a 5 year warranty. I will update this review if needed.
PROS: Cleans carpets/hardwood floors well
Easy to empty
Light and easy to maneuver
CONS: Expensive for a mostly plastic vacuum
Some of the plastic pieces seem flimsy.
Directions are useless
The head/wand apparently "clips" to the ball for storage - ehhhh - good luck with that.
***UPDATE***
After using this vacuum for over a month - I just wanted to update my review with a couple of observations.
POSITIVES: So maneuverable - and the slim head profile gets under some of my furniture that my old vacuum was unable to.
NEGATIVES: Dog hair tends to cling to the outside of the extendable wand due to static electricity.
Does not pick up all the dog hair on the carpet - I still see some embedded in the carpet after vacuuming. The problem seems to be with the carpet brush - it does not make contact with my short napped carpet. My old hoover did a much better job with it's powered, automatic height adjustable carpet brush. This is a little disappointing - seeing as it is about 4 times the price of my old hoover.
***UPDATE #2***
After 6 months of nearly daily use - I have to say that I can't recommend this vacuum for the following reasons:
1) Some plastic parts have broken off. While they are not critical pieces - it's annoying on a vacuum this expensive.
2) It clogs really easily. There is a bend where the hose meets the intake by the canister - and it narrows considerably. Dog hair accumulates there - and I have to try to fish it out at least twice a week. Because of the bend - this in no small feat.
3) It consistently leaves dog hair behind on the carpet - which builds up to the point where I have to drag out my old hoover to clean it up and start with a fresh slate. I don't use the hoover every time - if you're wondering - because some pieces have broken on it that require me to hold it together when I vacuum. It does a superior cleaning job - despite this.
I'm not sure why this vacuum is such a lame duck. My mom's upright dyson is about 8 years old and works so much better. I just wished that I had returned in during my 30 day window.....now I'm stuck with a vacuum that doesn't really vacuum. C'mon Dyson - I know you can do better!!
Not what I expected
Rating by : hobbiest,
I expected this to work as good as my upright Dyson, and be better on the bare floors. Well, it is better on the bare floor. However, it is not very good on carpets. It seems the head is not heavy enough to allow the beater bar to loosten the dirt in the fibers. I replaced a Sears canister that was quite old. I must say it did a better job on carpets. The accs. are a joke. The brush that came with it is so fine that the bristles suck up into the hose. I bought the accs. pack for the home ( Good lord was that ever expensive). Hoping the dust brush was better--well, it works better but, it's too big for tight places. Don't even bother trying to clean the carpet with the bare floor tool. As soon as you push it forward, it folds in upon itself. So, here it is ---Works great on the car & truck, great on the bare floors in the house, great for dusting where it fits, angled fan tool works great on top fan blades. Carpets, feggitabouddit, buy the upright. Oh, by the way, emptying the dirt canister is more difficult than the upright. Pet hair and other fibers get trapped between the outside wall and the inner mechanism, you have to dig it out with a slim tool or your finger.---In my opinion, three stars is a gift, and remember, it is only my opinion.
