A cut above, but

Fast toaster but the results are inconsistent, depending on what you are toasting. Heavier breads like sourdough and english muffins toast well but a medium density wheat bread toasts darker on one side (set at 12 o'clock). I talked to Calphalon and they said the degree of toasting depends on bread density, sugar content, etc. We bought a similar style Kitchen Aid and got the same results with the same breads. We like the speed and general overall toast quality of Calphalon so we decided to live with our wheat bread darker on one side and returned the Kitchen Aid (which seems inferior quality and appearance wise).

I previously had a 4 slice toastmaster for 40 years thru raising 6 children. Once even one of my sons hosed it out. I thought it was done for, but once it dried out, used it another 10 years. So I hated going to another brand, but decided to try this toaster. It came very quickly and I was pleasantly surprised that it is so nice looking, alot of toast selections, wide slots for bagels.
Also I like the fact it is light weight, as I am now 78 years old and picking it up to put away each time, It is half the weight of my old one.
Very satisfied.

I've been extremely happy with this toaster. It works, cooks the toast evenly and quickly.

Pros:
- Toast is cooked evenly.
- Slots are big enough for all kinds of bread items.
- You have fine control over how dark the toast gets
- Attractive (to my eyes)

Cons:
- My unit smelled the first few times I used it. I suspect some oil was left over on the unit and took a few cook cycles to burn it off. I would recommend toasting a few times with no bread in it to burn off any left over oils/solvents/whatever that were used in the manufacturing process.
