Inverter Technology
Moving Beyond Just "Heating Things Up"
Many people just use their microwaves for making popcorn or warming up soup because most microwaves just have one temperature setting--high. Conventional microwave ovens might have a low-power setting, but this is achieved by "pulsing" the high-power setting on and off rather than by emitting a steady stream of low-powered energy.
Panasonic's trailblazing Inverter technology delivers true, variable microwave power, which means even temperatures and consistent textures throughout the food being cooked. The consistent delivery of microwave energy allows delicate foods to simmer without the edges and surfaces overcooking, so foods have the look and taste you expect--without the wait.
The Inverter microwave oven perfects the art of cooking, taking microwave cooking to a whole new level. You'll experience delicious food that better retains its color, nutrients, and flavor and that's easier and faster to prepare. Oh, and you can still make great popcorn.
Single, Compact Power Supply
Furthermore, the Inverter power unit is smaller and lighter than conventional microwave circuitry (aka the heavy, enclosed side of the microwave), which allows for more interior space to fit that favorite casserole dish, without increasing the oven's overall exterior dimensions. Weighing just 31.1 pounds, the oven's roomy interior measures 18-1/2 inches long by 16-7/16 inches wide by 9 inches high, while its compact exterior measures 19-7/16 inches long by 21-7/8 inches wide by 12 inches high.
Highlights
One-Touch Genius Sensor Cook
With the touch of Panasonic's Sensor Cooking button, the microwave takes the guesswork out of creating a great meal, by automatically setting power levels and adjusting cooking or defrosting time. The sensor measures the amount of steam produced during cooking, and signals the microprocessor to calculate the remaining cooking time at the appropriate power level automatically.
Inverter Turbo Defrost
Panasonic evolved the Turbo Defrost feature, which allows you to defrost foods even faster than previous Panasonic Auto Defrost. Panasonic Inverter Turbo Defrost technology is an advanced microwave sequencing system using the inverter continuous-power delivery method.
Electrostatic Touch Dial with Push-Button Panel
Sleek and elegant control panel features an electrostatic touch dial, expanded six-digit display, and cool blue LED lighting.
Menu Action Screen (multi-lingual)
The Menu Action Screen is like having a chef to assist you in the kitchen. It scrolls step-by-step cooking instructions across the display, in a choice of English, Spanish, or French.
Keep Warm Feature
A pulsing delivery of very low microwave power keeps food temperatures at a constant level--without overcooking. So, foods like stew, gravy, and desserts remain warm in the oven until they're ready to be served.
Clock/Timer
Time-of-day clock and versatile timer provide exceptional convenience.
Quick Minute
The one-touch button allows you to set or add cooking time in 1-minute increments up to 10 minutes.
Child-Safety Lock
For safety, the oven's child safety lock prevents electronic operation (door still opens). Press Start three times to lock ("Lock" will display); press Stop/Reset three times to cancel.

Reviews of Panasonic Nn Se782s Genius & Prestige& 1 6 Cuft 1250 Watt Sensor Microwave With Inverter Technology Blue Electrostatic Dial Stainless Steel
Most likely the best oven and the best value.

Prior to buying this model I read most of the reviews here for both Panasonic and Sharp in the 1.6 & 2.2 cu ft sizes. I imagine you're doing the same routine. By now you're skeptical about the Panasonic because of the door design and failures reported after limited use. Don't be. Every product made has some percentage of failed items. It looks like if the Panasonic makes it past a couple of years, you're good for a solid 10 - 15 years of trouble free service. Just get the Square Trade warranty and treat the door and latch with a little respect. Simple. So, a couple of things: this model replaced a Panasonic that we had for over 12 years. It finally died. The control panel on that one was laid out just the same as the new one. The thing is laid out logically and is intuitive. Whether one thinks this or that button, or sequence of how to program something is 'good' depends on what they're used to...so you can ignore other folks comments about that. You get used to what you have to work with...it's called adapting. And while I'm at it, the electrostatic dial is very effective and super easy to use. The lady that complained about it must be 'challenged' in the extreme. Aside from that, the inverter technology IS genius. It makes a major difference in thawing evenly, which the old one did well and the new one does even better. One story: I made a big one-person Marie Callender pot pie the other day...10 minutes on high and sit for 5. The old oven struggled with these things, burning the bottom of the crust slightly about half the time. The new oven turned out a piece that could well be the poster child for microwave oven technology. It went in frozen solid and came out bubbly hot on the inside, meat and veggies both perfect and the crust, both top and bottom were amazing. From frozen lump to steaming succulent perfection via one button/dial/button sequence. How did we ever LIVE without these things...it's easily the most used appliance in the house. So of course we want it to do the best job possible...and this one does just that.
BTW: I got the Square Trade warranty. Smart Money.
PS: Did you know that putting a damp kitchen sponge in the thing and nuking it for 2 minutes on high kills 99 percent of the germs in it...even the e. coli! Nice!
Terrific microwave!!

After our cream Kenmore microwave died after 10 years we felt a bit reluctant to purchase another until I saw this. I love the inverter technology and quick min feature. No ugly keypads to push...just take the sensor dial and scroll! It's SO easy! Want to add minutes quickly? Use two more fingers to dial temp or weight.
We are so pleased with the heating, reheating and warming feature. Beautifully constructed as well. Finally have a stainless to match my appliances.
Happy, happy, happy!
Good microwave but absolutely unusable interface!

Imagine engineering teams coming together to build a really good microwave. Then a 10 year old comes along and designs the dial on the panel. This is what comes to mind when you use this microwave for the first time. Instead of a dial knob or buttons to enter the heat time for your microwave (the most basic operation you will use every single time), someone decided it would be cool to use a touch sensitive dial instead. Ok, that is cool if the touch sensor is to only 'touch' and select options. Not when you have to slide your finger along the outer end of the sensor in perfect clockwise circles and pretend you are turning a knob. It is very clunky, error prone and hypersensitive. You end up going too high or too low for the time you are trying to set, then have to reverse your circles till you get it just right. And all I'm trying to do here is set it to 30 seconds and start! Your only other input option is the 'quick minute' button. Overall, it takes much longer to just get your microwave started than it would on even the most basic of microwaves. If you are a 10 year old and like a sci-fi looking dial in blue that glows red next to where your finger touches, this is the microwave for you. But if you are an adult trying to heat your food, this gets old pretty soon. When you're in the kitchen doing other work, you realize that you cannot afford to wash your hands each time to operate this dial (yes, only bare fingers work) and keep sliding your finger in clockwise and anti-clockwise direction till you finally get the number right. I ended up using the 'quick minute' function most of the time and waiting till it hits the time I was really looking for, then stop it. This is ridiculous! Just do what I did - return this and get another Panasonic model without the touch dial. I'm giving it two stars instead of one only because the microwave itself works well and Panasonic's 'inverter' technology is pretty cool when you want to heat food at lower power. If not for the dial, I would give it at least 4 stars. If Panasonic were smart, they would immediately recall this product before people start suing them for carpal tunnel and other repetitive task injuries from using their dial (I'm not kidding, it is strenuous to push a finger down and keep turning it over and over again). All they have to do is swap it out for a traditional knob dial, they're welcome to keep all the pretty glowing lights.
