Reviews of Electrolux Ergorapido Brushroll Clean 2 In 1 Cordless Stick Vacuum El1061a

Great vacuum, could use some minor improvements
Rating by : Brenda, rating 4.0 of 5.0

I've had this vacuum for about two months now. I was absolutely in love with it when I first purchased, so I'm glad I waited a little bit before writing a review. I still love this vacuum and would most likely purchase it again, but I found some disadvantages. The suction has been great so far, but I am mostly picking up dust and dog hair. It does not really pick up bigger items, such as pieces of dog food, leaves, etc. I usually have to pick those up by hand, or angle the vacuum just right over the top so it will pick it up.

Pros:

*Detachable hand vac - I really like this feature. Was one of my requirements for a purchase.
*Battery life - I haven't had any issues with the battery life. I have a 3,400 sq ft home, about 2/3 of which is tiled/hard wood and I have yet to run out of battery while using.
*Looks - the vacuum has a great look to it. Might not be important for some, but I like that it's "pretty".
*LED Light - I didn't think much of this feature when purchasing, but the light has been especially great when vacuuming in darker areas of the house. It allows me to see the hair/dust on the floor that I'm picking up so I can make sure I've gotten everything.
*Swivel head - the head swivels with ease, but it's not so sensitive that it feels like it's going every other direction when trying to vacuum.

Cons:

*Power button on detachable hand vac - I've had an issue with accidentally shutting the power off while using the hand vac. The on/off button is right at the base of the handle, which I sometimes use to hold the vac while vacuuming my car or the stairs. This is more of an annoyance than a problem.
*Sliding - the vacuum won't stand up on it's own. It does come with a great charging base, but if you need to stop to empty the canister while still in the middle of vacuuming, you have to wedge it between something so it will stay upright. It won't even stand against the wall on it's own.
*Small canister - the canister is very small. This is probably to be expected since the canister is on the hand-held unit, but it does fill up quickly.
*Carpet - you can't really maneuver this on carpet. It does a good job on my area rugs, but I can't use it on my thicker carpet.

Overall, I am happy with my purchase. I was looking for something I could use for quick clean up in between regular cleanings, and this does the trick.

The suction compares to your kitchen broom

I love this stick vaccuum for several reasons. I would not recommend for one BIG reason. First the good: ergonomics. Yes. It swivels and is wonderful to manuever. The dirt cup is easily removed and attached. I like the detachable hand vac. I like the charging stand. I love everything about this vaccuum, and I mean everything, save one important feature: It has about as much suction as my hair dryer. And, since we know that hair dryers blow out and not suck in - I think you get my point.

I purchased this vac for dog hair, and to be fair, as long as I specifically and slowly run the vac DIRECTLY over the hair and ONLY on a hard floor surface, it will pic it up.....er....mostly. Forget about it adequately picking up hair from any .25" thick area rug or couch - just not enough suction. Forget about it picking up heavier food crumbs. I'm not talking about chunks of dumplings, I'm talking about cracker crumbs. Are cracker crumbs heavy, but I digress. The suction just isn't there. Did I mention the suction is awful? Again, can I be any more clear in saying the suction is awful? The only reason anything gets picked up at all is because the dirt gets swept into the vac by the rotating brush, which helps to push the cracker crumbs around your floor, too (you have a 50/50 chance of it going into the vac). It really is too darn bad. I really, really want to love and adore this vac. If the suction wasn't an issue, I would suggest it to be second to none.

It works (meaning it turns on faithfully) and picks up my German Shepherd's hair, but minimally and disappointly. Dang! The rest of the vac is smartly designed and easy to use. But, for around $150, I could NEVER recommend this vac to anyone I know. At $28 bucks - maybe a recommendation, but only with an explained expectation of performance.

Bottom line: The ease of use and ergonomics are a great feature, but the suction rivals an $8 broom. Too bad and I'm out $150 bucks. C'mon Electrolux.....ya had to know....

Versatile and Handy - Ergo I like it.

If contemplating a purchase of this little vaccum, keep in mind that it's not intended to be your only vacuum cleaner. The cordless Ergorapido, with run time limited by the battery's charge, is a supplementary vac meant for touch ups, light vacuuming, and sudden unexpected messes.

We also own the Electrolux EL1030A that has an 18v lithium battery. It is a little more powerful than the EL1061A and has longer run time. It also costs about fifty dollars more. Mrs. Spudman and I like both vacuums, though she likes the swivel mechanism of the new EL1061A better.

So how do I like the Ergorapido subject of this review? As an owner of 10 vacuum cleaners (Mrs. Spudman just rolls her eyes at this.) I think the Ergorapido EL1061A is well worth the money. With two dogs and two messy parakeets, I vacuum the house every day with one of the big uprights. Mrs. Spudman invariably goes behind me with the Ergorapido. She says she does so because the much smaller Electrolux can fit into and under places that can't be reached by the larger upright.

Pickup - You can't compare the Ergorapido's power to a large plug in unit's but it is more than adequate for the tasks we give it. The dogs invariably track in "nuisance" dirt; the Ergorapido is a perfect foil for these messes and cleans them up quickly. The separate hand unit cleans up parakeet seed very well and is powerful enough to even suck up the tablecloth under the cage if the vacuumer isn't careful. The two-speed option is good for various surfaces. On carpet the Ergorapido can be difficult to push, especially on thick carpeting. I like using this vacuum to clean our carpeted steps; it's so easy to carry and maneuver.

Aesthetics - I like the looks of the Ergorapido models with their understated elegance and sleekness. The black body with silver accents is very attractive, a good feature for a vacuum that is in open display at all times.

Features -
Pros -
The two running speeds
The LCD headlight
It's lightness of being
The two vacuums in one design
It's quietness compared to the larger vacuums
Revolving brush roll
The self cleaning brush option - Fun but certainly not a necessity
Its svelte looks
The cordless advantage
Mounts on its charging stand with ease, almost magically
Enough run time (about 15 minutes) to vacuum the entire downstairs and the steps leading upstairs.

Cons- The only con might be the chore of cleaning which I do every day. Sometimes I take the dirt cup and filter outside to clean, but mostly I clean the cup and filter with my small Hoover cannister cleaner. Cleaning the filter generates enough dust that I prefer not to empty and shake it over a trash can inside. When I bought the last Ergorapido, I opted to buy an extra filter for it. It still sits in a drawer a year later and most likely I'll never need it.

Finally - We love the Ergorapido vacuums. And we are both fussy about our vacuum cleaners.
