This Portable Ice maker from maxi matic is easy to use and has been a wonderful investment for me! With the HOT summer upon us here in sunny Southern California, it's very hard to keep up with our ice needs. Like myself and for those who DON'T have the luxury of having an automatic ice maker in your home refrigerator, this ice maker has helped me keep an ample supply of ice on hand without having to fill those little trays a gazillion times! Who wants to wait hours for those ice trays in your freezer or make constant trips to the market to purchase bags of ice??! I sure don't and now I don't have to! I love the fact that it only takes a short amount of time, about 15 minutes, to produce ice - it makes 1 sheet (24 ice CUBES, not those tiny little bullets). I wait until the reservoir is full then scoop the ice into plastic bags and toss into my freezer - WAY faster than waiting for those little trays to freeze and far less expensive than buying bags of ice at the market. It makes both small and large ice cubes which is great. The smaller ice cubes fit perfectly into my 'Kleen Cantine'(from REI). The BEST part about this awesome little ice maker is the CLEAR ICE!!! YES!!! This is the first machine that I have purchased that actually produces crystal clear ice and not the cloudy, pearlesque ice that one might normally be used to. I was gifted a small ice maker years ago and it worked ok for about a year until it eventually died on me. But the ice was always cloudy and similar in taste to the way tap water tastes from your faucet - not that great but that's what we grew up on (tap water) before all the fancy water filters and 'reverse osmosis' came into play and so, I was used to it. This machine makes all the difference and the ice tastes SO much better than I could have ever imagined! My husband and I are also frequent travelers with our RV and we fully intend on taking this portable baby with us on our road trips we have planned this summer. Its the perfect size. I have been using the machine several times a week (I purchased this in April)and it has been fantastic. Well worth the cost--shipped fast from Amazon--the packing was excellent and I absolutely love the stainless steel finish because it goes perfectly with my other stainless steel finished appliance in my kitchen. No dislikes whatsoever! I would definitely recommend this ice maker to everyone.

First of all let me say..WOW! Great product! When I ordered the Ice Maker I was worried that it would take up a lot of space in my apartment. It may look like a freezer, but it is a hardcore ice cube machine!!! Rest assured this ice maker is very compact and is a real space saver. Not only does this ice maker look great due to the stainless steel finish, but it works like a DREAM! Theres just something nasty about refrigerator ice because it takes on the flavor of whatever is in your freezer and worst of all, the ice is cloudy! If the weather is a bit warm, the ice may melt, but rest assured more ice is on the way as this unit recycles the melted water into new ice! This ice maker also make CRYSTAL CLEAR square shaped ice as advertised. Great for entertaining guests and making cocktails!

I got this due to my Samsung icemaker breaking for the second time due to a design flaw. The refrigerator was out of warranty, and I knew if I fixed it, again, it would break, again.
At any rate, this icemaker is larger than I thought it would be. It is fairly noisy, but I can't hear it outside the kitchen where I installed it. It was fairly quick to deliver ice not long after plugging it in and has been happily generating copious quantities of ice since.
It did however have a curious smell to it when running. It smells like a combination of rubber tires and lubricating oil. The smell is slowly fading away, and does not affect the taste of the ice.
I've been putting filtered water into the reservoir from my Brita water filter and it is clean tasting, clear ice. The ice cubes are not very large, and have a hollow indentation in the top, but this is fine, as long as it's cold. I took someone's suggestion and am putting the ice in larger freezer ziplock bags and putting these in my deep freeze. I've made about five quart bags of ice in two days.
The only other complaint is that it generates a fair amount of heat. While this may be great in the wintertime, it is summer and it makes the kitchen hotter while it's running.
Time will tell how this unit will hold up. We go through a lot of ice here in Texas in summer, so we will be running it full out for at least the next month. I will get back here and write updates when I can.
