Let me just start off by saying that this remote is one of the hardest things to get right with the Vera Lite controller I have. But once you know how to do it, it's not that bad. Here's the tricks I learned by putting together a bunch of stuff on other blogs and bulletins from other users (thanks to them).

1. If you use this as a secondary controller with the Vera acting as the primary, I don't believe it will control the lights with the LIGHTS option on the remote. But it can control SCENES so just create scenes on your Vera for it to control.

2. To get it working, simply pair the GE remote to the Vera just like it was another Z-Wave light module. Put the Vera into Pairing Mode and on the GE, press and hold down the SETUP button until the green and red lights flash twice. Then enter the programming code 967. After they pair, the GE remote will show up on the Vera device dashboard as a Scene Controller.

3. Now create some scenes on the Vera and associate it with the GE remote by doing the following steps. Do this in the Vera's Automation menu.

A. Create a new scene and give it a meaningful name - like "GE Table Lamp ON"
B. Put the scene into the correct room if you want - like "Living Room"
C. Now select the device you want to turn ON - like the table lamp, and select the ON function.
D. Now go into the TRIGGERS function for the new scene. The GE remote will be the trigger for this scene.
E. Click on the "Add Trigger" button to create a new Trigger and do the following.

Device: Select the "scene controller" for the GE remote that was paired in the beginning. You should see it at the bottom of the list if it was the latest device paired. It should look like "#18_Scene Controller". This allows the GE remote to trigger the scene you're creating and control the table lamp's ON function through the scene.

What Type of Event: Select the "A scene is activated" for this scene as you're turning something ON.

Name for this Trigger: Put down something like "Scene ON" for the name.

Which Scene Number: Put down the number of the button on the GE remote to control the scene. If you want button ONE on the remote to do this, put down the number 1.

F. Click on the "Back to Triggers" and click on the "Confirm Changes" to save the new scene.

G. Now do the exact same steps to create a new scene to turn the table lamp OFF. Give it the appropriate names and when you select the action for the table lamp, select the OFF function. For the "What Type of Event" parameter, select the "A scene is de-activated" this time as you're turning something OFF. Remember to associate the OFF function with the same button on the remote as the ON function. For our example, I used button one (1) again. Now the ON and OFF buttons will work to trigger the right scene event.

H. Repeat these procedures to create new scenes you'd like the GE remote to control.

I. After you're done creating all the new scenes for the GE remote's buttons, you MUST PAIR the GE remote with the Vera controller again. Follow the instructions above to pair. This will synch the new scenes to the remote and the two will now work.

J. When you test the GE remote, make sure you push the SCENE button to put the remote into the Scene Mode. Now when you push the buttons for ON and OFF, the GE remote should control the devices you programmed in the Vera.

Good luck! This worked for me and I have the Vera Lite running the UI5 software. The remote is the GE 45600 Basic Remote.

If the manual was well written this would be a five star review.

This remote was added to an existing Z-Wave network that consisted of only Instamatic products. I'm guessing that most people will want to use this as a secondary remote due to the lack of an LCD display so I hope that I can save you some time. Once your existing master remote is set to transmit your network configuration, all you need to do on this remote is hold setup until the two LEDs blink and press 967. This was not clear in the manual that came with the remote though I understand GE is working to rewrite the instructions. Again, this advice is coming from someone with an Instamatic controller and Instamatic devices.

The other issue that is unclear is the shift command to utilize the 10 through 18 register. One would think that shift + 1 would be 11 but with this remote, that would trigger event 10. For example, I have outdoor lighting set to scene 12. To turn this on I would need to press shift and then 3.

I don't want to make the setup and utilization seem complicated because it really isn't, but I want to offer one more piece of information that may make or break the purchase decision for an individual. There are buttons for Light, Group, and Scene at the top of the remote as well as an All button on the third row. Think of these as modes for the remote. For example, when you press Scene, even if you use it 100 times and let is sit for a month, your number selection will continue to activate "Scenes" until you select one of the other options. This was great for me as the remote by the garage door stays in All mode. That means that if I press any rocker switch it will continue to turn ALL of the programmed lights on or off. It won't revert to only turning off a specific light.

The unit takes three AAA batteries which are not included. The unit does provide visual confirmation of command execution through the red and green LEDs.

I am using this remote as a secondary controller with a GE Simon XT alarm system as the master. The basic programming (adding a light) was simple. Making it a secondary controller took some "trial and error" due to a lack of clarity of the instructions.
Now that I have it programmed, it works great! My only disappointment is that that batteries only last about a month under what I would consider minimal usage.
By the way, I was successful in programming it a secondary controller by the using the programming sequence under "Copying Network and/or Device Information to this Remote" on pages 11 and 12 of the instruction manual.
